The Southern California region consists of 10 of California’s 58 Counties. It is a heavily developed urban environment, with two major cities, Los Angeles and San Diego, as the most densely populous cities in California.
The motion picture, television, and music industries are centered in Hollywood, a district of Los Angeles. The name Hollywood has come to be pop-culture shorthand for the American motion picture industry.
Southern California is also home to large homegrown surf and skateboard culture with multiple surf and skateboard companies headquartered here. Locals and tourists alike frequent the Southern California coast for its popular beaches – Malibu, Laguna Beach, La Jolla, and Hermosa Beach.
